What's happening in  JULY 2010

July is here.

The start to summer for students and school kids. A few blissful summer months lie ahead for them.  (And a few months of our favourite shops, hideaways etc being crowded with the little darlings - bear up.)

Sunday 4th July - USA Independence Day

Any opportunity for us to eat junk food.  Redwood hotdogs, popcorn, coke, burgers. Watching trashy American TV.  I know that's not what the day's all about - but it's what you make of it.

Wed 14th Emmeline Pankhurst Day

The women who fought to give women the right to vote. Do you vote? It was scandalously recent - 1928 - when women were given the right to vote. Emmeline also cared for animals and ate mainly a veg diet, her daughter was totally vegetarian.

14th French Bastille Day

Another excuse to hijack a national day for our own ends.  A liquid diet today of French martini and French onion soup listening to Edith Piaf.

9th-11th T in the Park

This phenomenally successful sold-out festival comes round again.  They are catering well for vegetarians this year.  If you're not lucky enough to be there you can enjoy a Friday or Saturday night knowing your town centre will be relatively quiet.

Fruit Picking

If you've never done this before then give it a try this year. It's not that much cheaper that makes it worthwhile. But there is great satisfaction from picking your own fruit.  Keep an eye out for signs on country roads. Don't be shy. Just park, get your little tub from the farmers wife and pick.

13rd of July 1985  Live Aid

25 years since Live Aid.  People still starving. What's going on?  Did you know that adopting a veg diet can contribute to helping this problem? Read here for more info http://www.viva.org.uk/guides/feedtheworld.htm.
