STOP A GLASGOW ZOO BEING BUILT

Last updated August 2009

A new zoo is planned for Glasgow. Please help us to stop this happening.

The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland and Glasgow/South Lanarkshire local authorities have resurrected plans for a £35 million "animal-based visitor attraction" on the banks of the River Clyde in Glasgow.

You might remember this was attempted a few years ago but plans were quietly dropped in no small part due to local opposition and pressure on Councils from organisations such as ourselves and Animal Concern.

The consortium pitching this ridiculous idea are boasting of bringing amongst other species giant pandas, manatees, jaguars and primates to the streets of Glasgow.

Profiteering from the capture and confinement of animals is completely unacceptable.  Scotland for Animals will be fighting to block this zoo and to do this we need your help.

Please cut and paste the following letter and send to the people below.

Dear Sir

I would like to raise an objection to plans for a zoo attraction which has been suggested for Cunningar Loop on the River Clyde.

There is ample documentary evidence that confining animals to unnatural environments and captivity has a severely detrimental effect on their welfare. With public opinion becoming increasingly critical of zoos and other captive environments due to evidence available, I feel that if this project goes ahead it will have a very negative impact on the image of Glasgow, Lanarkshire and indeed Scotland as a whole.

If you require any information regarding animals in captivity and the consequences of this please contact Scotland for Animals;
info@scotlandforanimals.org

Yours faithfully
